Even the Darkest Night Will End and The Sun Will Raise

In Les Mis, there is a reprise of “Do You Hear the People Sing”. Below are the lyrics.

Do You Hear the People Sing

Lost in the Valley of the Night

It is the Music of a People Who are Climbing to the Light

For the Wretched of the Earth

There is a Flame that Never dies

Even the Darkest Night and The Sun Will Rise

They Will Live Again in Freedom in the Garden of the Lord

They Will Walk Behind the Ploughshare

They Will Put away the Sword

The Chain Will be Broken, and All Men Will have their Reward

Will you Join in Our Crusade

Who will Be strong and Stand with Me

Somewhere beyond the Barricade is There a World you Long to See

Do You Hear the People Sing

Say do You hear the Distant drums

It is the future that they bring when tomorrow comes

Will you join in Our crusade

Who will be Strong and Stand with Me

Somewhere beyond the Barricade is There a world You long to see

Do You Hear the People Sing

Say do You hear the Distant drums

It is the future that bring when tomorrow comes…..

Tomorrow Comes

Finale Les Mis

Major Spoilers:

Before this reprise, Jean Valjean (the main character) dies with Cosette, his adopted daughter and Marius, his now son-in-law. The lyrics “Even the Darkest Night will End and the Sun will Rise” is extremely relevant now. Those lyrics are similar to the bible verse: “Those who have Walked in Darkness have seen a great light”.

Right now, the world is living in the middle of a crisis, the Corona Pandemic. It is a dark time right now due to that. But, there is still hope that they we will get through this. Things we wanted to do got postponed, etc…… That is why those Les Mis lyrics are so relevant today. That reprise, in my opinion, represents heaven. It is filled with hopeful lyrics, and a huge part of why Les Mis is inspiring, uplifting, and hopeful.

  1. I really love the lyric “Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise”… it’s so hopeful, so beautiful. It’s one of my favorite lyrics from the whole show–and Les Miz is a show full of great lyrics!
