Yes, a Lot of musicals take place in the US and Europe. Yesterday, I wrote a list of musicals I love in the US. Today, I decided to mention the musicals I love that take place in Europe.
The Musicals:
- Les Mis
- Phantom of the Opera
- Beauty and the Beast
- Man of La Mancha
- Sound of Music
- Oliver
- My Fair Lady
- Mamma Mia
- Frozen
So many good ones! I especially love Les Mis, Beauty and the Beast and Phantom from this list. A few of my other favorite stage musicals that take place in Europe include An American in Paris and Jane Eyre.

Sounds like you really love musicals set in France. Sounds crazy, but it took me a long time to realize Beauty and the Beast takes place in France

Belgiam has two really great musicals called 14-18 and 40-45 (set during the world wars, as the dates suggest). They’re in Dutch, which I don’t actually speak, but I went to see 40-45 live and it was one of the most amazing theatrical experiences I’ve ever had. And crazily enough, I actually understood most of the basic plot line (and then my Belgian friends filled in the gaps). They’re both two great non-English European musicals to check out if you’re looking for something new! Both musicals have proshots available to watch 🙂
