Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow Review

This is the 2nd book in the Nevermoor series. It literally continues right where Nevermoor ended. In a lot of ways, Wundersmith is better than Nevermoor.

Morrigan Crow may have defeated hear deadly curse and joined the prestigious Wunderous Society, but her journey has only just begun…….

The people of the secret, magical city of Nevermoor have a long memory of the monstrous attacks orchestrated by the only other known Wundersmith, Ezra Squall- and they seem to think Morrigan’s own knack for Wunder makes her just as deadly.

And so it’s so surprise that when citizens of the Wundrous Society begin to go missing, Morrigan is the number one suspect.

Now it’s up to Morrigan and her friends, new and old, to prove her innocence—before she’s expelled from the Wundrous Society, her only home, for good

Nevermoor becomes a lot more developed in Wundersmith. I love the world even more- due to learning more about other incredible things about the place such as Tricksy Lanes. You learn a whole lot more about the Wundrous Society because now Morrigan and the rest of her unit are now part of the society. Including Morrigan—–Hawthorne, Cadence, Lambeth, Francis, Mahir, Arch, Anah, and Thaddea are the members of unit 919.

Morrigan does face a lot of problems in the society- struggle with being accepted by her unit (except for Hawthorne), problems with bullying, and even with classes. No one is willing to teaching her the skills needed for Wunder (due to the negative stigma around it), except for none other that Ezra Squall (I really dislike him, and his controlling of Morrigan was terrible). She is brave in many ways- as in trying to figure out the reason for the disappearances even if that meant breaking the rules. She has told quite a LOT at the society that ALL Wundersmiths are evil- which is far from the truth.

Hawthorne remains such an incredible friend to Morrigan. Cadence is pretty interesting- I really wasn’t the biggest fan of her in Nevermoor, but she grew on me in this book. At least, Morrigan knew she existed. These three all played an incredible part in rescuing some of those that disappeared. There are two times that horrid Ghastly Market happened- the 1st time Morrigan was with Cadence and the 2nd she was with Hawthorne. Hallowmas- boy, that night was terrifying.

This book really does develop both the world and characters a lot more. You saw more of unit 919 in action. Some members in the group are more interesting than others- Morrigan, Hawthorne, and Cadence are the easiest to even remember. Jupiter still remains an incredible patron.
