Well, one thing that musicals are known for are their emotional side. But the only way they could make you tear up is if you formed a strong enough emotional connection. Plus, the songs have to be powerful enough, and usually they tend to be either heartbreaking or bittersweet, but it has happened during a happy song. So, what are those songs?
Musical Songs that Drive me to Tears
- I Dreamed a Dream
- Come to Me
- On My Own
- A Little Fall of Rain
- Drink With Me
- Bring Him Home
- Empty Chairs at Empty Tables
- Will I
- Without You
- I’m Not That Girl
- For Good
- True Love
- Beauty and the Beast
Conclusion
I don’t think that reaction even started until Les Mis entered my life. Despite knowing that sad was an emotion, I still wasn’t an emotional wreck. Heartbreak wasn’t there yet—I had to discover it when I least expected it.
There are some songs that have driven me to tears, but not all the time (so they don’t exactly count).
Ack, the entire Les Mis soundtrack is SO EMOTIONAL. I mean, so many of the songs are likely to make me cry. Especially anything related to Fantine. “Beauty and the Beast” is also a very moving song.
The first several times I heard “Welcome Home (Finale)” from Bandstand I cried.

One of the best parts of Les Mis is its emotional power in the song- still an emotional wreck and will always be
