In the world of musical theatre, there are multiple ways they can start. Either it is by their stage production or it is through their movie. Look at the animated movies or musicals that just for some reason began as a film.
Musical Films (can include those that haven’t made it to stage yet)
- Greatest Showman
- Beauty and the Beast
- Lion King
- Aladdin
- Frozen
- Cinderella- the only Rodgers and Hammerstein musical that started by film
- High School Musical
Conclusion
It appears like MOST musicals prefer to start on stage before turning into a movie musical.
