April 2021 in Review

April was a better month compared to February and March. I actually do have some highlights.

Reading

Song of Achilles- for fans of Greek Mythology. This is basically The Iliad told from Patroclus’ POV

Yellow-Lighted Bookshop- This book is perfect for any bookworm.

Hard Times- This was the main classic I wanted to read this year. This is yet another Dickens book.

Peter Pan- this is the last book I finished in April. I don’t remember if I actually read this children’s classic or not.

Exploring

My family did explore a part of Charlotte we barley spend time at. That was fun. There are times when I keep on forgetting on big the city is.

Part of the exploring was taking a hike at Lake Norman State Park.

Puzzling

Below is the newest puzzle I own. I started and finished that.

Movies

The most memorable movie I watched was “A Week Away”, which I plan to review tomorrow. It reminded me of Camp Rock in a way. A musical movie- more on that tomorrow.

Favorite Rodgers and Hammerstien Musicals

Rodgers and Hammerstein are one of the most famous musical theatre duos. I actually love their musicals. I decided to talk about the musicals I love that they wrote.

Sound of Music

My all-time favorite musical they wrote is Sound of Music. Sound of Music is one of my childhood favorite musicals. I was raised on the movie, and Edelweiss was my first piano recital song. It has memorable songs that are fun to sing to, a memorable plot about the importance of family and music, and memorable characters. It has a double love story- meaning two love stories, which is true for most Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals.

In 2015, I finally saw the stage show. Seeing the stage show made Sound of Music more meaningful. I got even more emotional. I cried during Edelweiss, which took me off guard. Sound of Music will always be my favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.

Cinderella

For some reason, I keep on forgetting about Cinderella. Wonder if that has anything to do with its popularity with Disney. However, I love Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. It has such memorable songs- from “In my Own Little Corner”, “Impossible”, and “Ten Minutes Ago”. Like expected, it has an incredible story. Both the Prince and Cinderella get more developed in the musical.

South Pacific

Like almost all R and H musicals, it is filled with incredible songs. I feel like this musical teaches you a lot about Racism and where it comes from. It has two love stories- one is more serious and one is lighter. It focuses mostly on Nellie and Emelie.

Oklahoma

Like usual, another R/H musical with memorable songs. It took me a while to realize Oklahoma is home to two love triangles. While it might seem it is just about this dance, it really isn’t. Oklahoma focuses mostly on the romance between Curly and Laurey. You even have the fun romance between Will Parker and Ado Annie. The love triangles still are weak—you have the whole fighting for someone thing. But, how you want the romances to end up do end up the way you want it to. Curly does everything to prevent Laurey from being with Jud- Jud is abusive. It is also about Oklahoma becoming a state.

The Questions

Talk about your favorite book/movie series and why? Actually I never fully thought this

if you could bring 3 characters back to life from the series, who would it be and why? This is quite difficult- I would want to bring back more than 3 characters. But for the time being, Dobby, Sirius, and Fred. Those are what automatically came to mind.

What’s your Hogwarts house and who’s your favorite character from your house? I belong to Hufflepuff. I barely know of any Hogwarts characters. I am going to cheat a little bit and go to Fantastic Beasts- they are connected to Harry Potter. I actually fell in love with Newt and just realized he is a Hufflepuff- so he would be my answer. I hope to eventually knit a Hufflepuff scarf.

If you look closely at the picture above, you will spot a Hufflepuff bracelet. It was found in my stocking.

illvermony or Hogwarts? Well, Hogwarts of course. I love all the magic and the rotating stairs. I love the characters who attend Hogwarts. Not all my favorite Hogwarts characters are part of Gryffindor- love Luna, Sirus, etc…Obviously, I love the Golden Trio and the Weasleys’. Love seeing the different trials the trio went through.

Share atleast 5 HP memes- I have to confess, I am not the biggest fan of memes.

I tag this to any Harry Potter fan

Liebster Award- Yes, Another

Crazily, this award didn’t come with rules. I have no idea where I found this award, but I was willing to answer the questions.

  1. Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names? Not anymore. Ever since 2004, I had a black maltipoo named Coco. Sadly, this month she crossed the Rainbow Bride. There are pictures below.

2. What was the last book you hated/strongly disliked? I think this belongs to Anna Karenina. Yes, I should have not even finished it- I should have stopped in the middle. However, one subplot kept me going- I enjoyed the Levin/Kitty subplot that I decided to continue.

3. What is your favourite afternoon snack? Usually a cereal bar- I love apple-cinnamon and blueberry the most.

4. Do you prefer new movies or old movies? I am a combo of the two meaning I love both old and new movies. In terms of musical movies, some of my favorites were old movies- as in Sound of Music (+other Rodgers and Hamerstein), Singing in the Rain, White Christmas for example. In terms of newer musical movies, I love Les Mis, Frozen, Greatest Showman, Live action Aladdin, and live action Beauty and The Beast.

Yes, down below I have pictures from movies I didn’t mention.

5. What are some of the non-musical movies I love? That belongs to George C Scott’s “A Christmas Carol”, Maleficent, Cinderella (2015- meaning the Lily James one), Zootopia, The newest Trilogy of Star Wars, Narnia, and Harry Potter.

6. Do you have a favourite superhero? Well, I don’t like Marvel.

7. If you had to write a retelling of a classic novel, which one would you pick? Boy, this is tough. For starters, I struggle with even reading retellings- they make me so nervous. However, I really loved Spinning Silver (Rumplstillskin)- it felt so original in many ways.

I really would struggle with choosing a classic book for a retelling.

8. Yes, I choose a book from January. Best book you’ve read this month? Best book- I am thinking maybe the entire Chronicles of Narnia series.

9. What is your favourite book to movie adaption? I actually decided to choose Princess Bride- loved it for years and still not tired of it. Love both the book and movie- the only thing I don’t like about the book is that the chapters are way too long. It helped already seeing the movie- I was able to guess when certain events would happen.

If could spend a day in any time period, which would you choose? Never really though of this

10. Tea or coffee? Coffee- I love having mocha mistos in the morning. I also love getting to a coffee shop when I can- Starbucks and Amelie’s for example. The book that is pictured below- I would recommend for coffee lovers, Starbucks lovers, and those who hope to start a business.

11. And finally, how much sleep do you get on average? I would say maybe 6-8 hrs

Due to not knowing where I found this post, I leave this tag open to anyone.

My Questions:

  1. If you were to spend time with a favorite literary character, who would you choose and why?

  5. Which was the most recent standalone you fell in love with?
  6. What was one of your favorite books outside of your favorite genres of books?
  7. Would you rather go out for a cup of coffee or a cup of tea?
  8. What is your favorite way to read a book (physical, ebook, or audible)
  9. What was the most recent musical you watched in person?
  10. Once you can see a musical in person (as in an actual theater), what musical would you want to see?
  11. What are some musicals that never leaves “your to be watched list”
